Background Information
In the Microsoft Project Data Model, the software stores project data as either task data or resource data. Because of this, when you display a task View (such as Gantt Chart), you can only apply a task Table, a task Filter, or a task Group.
Oddly enough, this is an exception to this rule. While in a task View, you can filter on three task fields that contain resource information. These fields are the Resource Names, Resource Initials, and Resource Group fields. Using this bit of “insider” knowledge, you can actually apply a resource Filter in a task View.

In the Resource Sheet view of your project, there is a Group field which many people do not use. If you are not currently using the Group field, you can filter on any resource field by completing the following steps:
1. In the Resource Sheet view of your project, right-click on the Type column header and select the Insert Column item on the shortcut menu.
2. In the Column Definition dialog, click the Field Name pick list and select the resource field containing the information upon which you wish to filter in the task View.
3. Click the OK button to insert the new field in the Resource Sheet view.
4. Click the column header of the new column and then click the Copy button on the Standard toolbar to copy the contents of the field to the Clipboard.
5. Click the Group column header and then click the Paste button to paste the contents of the copied field.
6. Navigate to any task View, such as the Gantt Chart view.
7. Click the Filter pick list and select the Resource Group… filter.
8. In the Resource Group dialog, type the filter criteria in the Group name field and then click the OK button.

Note: If you are using Project Server 2007 or 2010, you might want to use a similar technique to filter a large project for tasks assigned to local resources, as opposed to enterprise resources found in the Enterprise Resource Pool. To filter for tasks assigned to local resources in your project, apply the Resource Sheet view and then type the word Local in the Group column for any local resource. Then apply the Resource Group… filter in the task View. In the Resource Group dialog, enter the text Local in the Group Name field and click the OK button to filter for the tasks assigned to local resources.
