Background Information
Because of a default setting in the Import Project Wizard when importing enterprise projects, users with Administrator permissions or Resource Manager permissions can accidentally import local resources into Project Server as enterprise resources.
Resolution for Project Server 2007
To avoid importing local resources as enterprise resources in Project Server 2007, the user should always do the following when importing enterprise projects using the Import Project Wizard:
1. Lauch Project Professional 2007 and connect to Project Server.
2. Click Tools > Enterprise Options > Import Project to Enterprise.
3. Select a local project and then click the Open button.
4. Click the Map Resources link in the sidepane on the left.
5. In the Map Project Resources onto Enterprise Resources dialog, map local resources onto enterprise resources and then click the OK button.
In step #5 above, if you left at least one local resource unmapped to an enterprise resource, you will see the local resource in the Import Resource grid on the right side of the Confirm Resources page. Examine the value in the Import column for the local resource . The default value is Yes, which means the system will import the local resource as an enterprise resource!
6. For each local resource in the Import Resource grid, change the value in the Import column to No.
7. Continue on with the remaining steps in the Import Project Wizard to import the local project into Project Serve 2010.
Resolution for Project Server 2010
Warning: Before you can access the Import Project Wizard in Project Professional 2010, you must add a button for this wizard to either the Quick Access Toolbar or to a custom Ribbon tab. It is easiest to add the button to the Quick Access Toolbar by completing the following steps:
1. Lauch Project Professional 2010 and connect to Project Server.
2. Right-click anywhere on the Ribbon and then click the Customize Quick Access Toolbar item on the shortcut menu.
3. In the Project Options dialog, click the Choose Commands From pick list (upper left corner of the dialog) and select the All Commands item on the list.
4. In the list of commands on the left side of the dialog, select the Import Project to Enterprise Item.
5. Click the Add button to add the button to the Quick Access Toolbar.
6. Click the OK button.
To avoid importing local resources as enterprise resources in Project Server, the user should always do the following when importing enterprise projects using the Import Project Wizard:
1. Lauch Project Professional 2010 and connect to Project Server.
2. Open a non-enterprise (local) project.
3. Click the Import Project to Enterprise button on the Quick Access Toolbar.
4. Click the Map Resources link in the sidepane on the left.
5. In the Map Project Resources onto Enterprise Resources dialog, map local resources onto enterprise resources and then click the OK button.
In step #5 above, if you leave at least one resource as a local resource (unmapped to an enterprise resource), you will see the local resource in the Import Resource grid on the right side of the Confirm Resources page. Examine the value in the Import column for the local resource . The default value is Yes, which means the system will import the local resource as an enterprise resource!
