Resolution for Project Server 2003
Before deleting the enterprise project, the Project Server administrator must determine the subweb number of the project in question by completing the following steps:
1. Log into Project Web Access with administrator permissions.
2. Click Admin > Manage Windows SharePoint Services.
3. Click the Manage SharePoint Sites link in the sidepane.
4. Locate the site for the project in question and then write down the Project ID number for that project.
The Project Server administrator can now delete the project without deleting the SharePoint subweb by completing the following steps:
1. Click the Clean up Project Server database link in the sidepane.
2. Select the “Projects and To-Do Lists” option.
3. Do not select the "Delete the SharePoint team Web site for the specified project" option.
4. Select the project from the data grid and click the Delete button.
5. Click the Yes button when prompted.
The Project Server administrator must import the new project into the Project Server database by completing the following steps:
1. Launch Microsoft Project Professional and log into Project Server with administrator permissions.
2. Click Tools > Enterprise Options > Import Project to Enterprise.
3. Select the new project and import it, taking care to match resources in the project with enterprise resources.
4. Click Collaborate > Publish > All Information.
5. Close the project and exit Microsoft Project Professional.
The Project Server administrator must connect the newly-imported project to the subweb of the deleted project by completing the following steps:
1. In Project Web Access, click Admin > Manage Windows SharePoint Services.
2. Click the Manage SharePoint Sites link in the sidepane.
3. Select the new project and click the Edit Site Address button.
4. In the SharePoint site URL, remove the ID current number and enter the ID number of the old site (written down in step #4 above).
5. Click the OK button.
6. Click OK when prompted.
7. Select the new project and click the Synchronize button.
8. Click the Yes button to synchronize the users for the site.
Finally, the Project Server administrator should set the manager of the new project as the Owner of the project by completing the following steps:
1. Click the Projects menu in Project Web Access.
2. Click the row header for the new project and click the Edit button.
3. Click the Owner field pick list and select the manager of the project.
4. Click the Save and Close button.
After completing the above sets of steps, the project manager for the new project should do the following to take over as the manager of the project:
1. Launch Microsoft Project Professional 2003 and log into Project Server.
2. Open the project in question.
3. Click Collaborate > Publish > Republish Assignments.
4. Select the "Become the manager for these assignments" option.
5. Click OK.
Resolution for Project Server 2007
Before deleting the enterprise project, the Project Server administrator must determine the site address (URL) of the project workspace for the project in question by completing the following steps:
1. Log into Project Web Access with administrator permissions.
2. Click Server Settings > Project Workspaces.
3. Write down the site address (URL) the site for the enterprise project you need to delete.
Tip: If you intend to complete all of the following steps in rapid order, you can copy the URL to the Clipboard or to a text file for easy access.
The Project Server administrator can now delete the project without deleting the SharePoint workspace by completing the following steps:
1. Click Server Settings > Delete Enterprise Objects.
2. Select the “Projects, Proposals, and Activities” option.
3. Select the "Delete projects from Draft and Published databases" option.
4. Do not select the "" option.
5. Select the option checkbox for the project and click the Delete button.
6. Click the OK button when prompted.
7. Click the Cancel button to rerturn to the Server Settings page.
The Project Server administrator must import the new project into the Project Server database by completing the following steps:
1. Launch Microsoft Project Professional and log into Project Server with administrator permissions.
2. Click Tools > Enterprise Options > Import Project to Enterprise.
3. Select the new project and import it, taking care to match resources in the project with enterprise resources.
4. Click File > Publish to publish the project.
5. Close and check in the project, and then exit Microsoft Project Professional.
The Project Server administrator must connect the newly-imported project to the Project Workspace of the deleted project by completing the following steps:
1. In Project Web Access, click Server Settings - Project Workspaces.
2. Select the new project and click the Edit Site Address button.
4. In the Site URL field, enter the URL for the Project Workspace of the deleted project. NOTE: You will not need to enter the complete URL. Enter only the part of the URL representing the name of the deleted project.
5. Click the OK button.
6. Select the new project and click the Synchronize button.
7. Click the Yes button to synchronize the users for the site.
After attaching the Project Workspace for the deleted project to the newly-imported project, you have created an "orphanded" Project Workspace for the newly-imported enterprise project. To delete the orphanded Project Workspace, refer to the following FAQ:

After you delete the orphanded Project Workspace site, you may also want to rename the title of the Project Workspace by completing the following steps:
1. Click the Site Address (URL) for the Project Workspace.
The system navigates to the Project Workspace for the newly-imported project, but the title of the Project Workspace remains from the deleted project.
2. Click the Site Actions pick list and select the Site Settings option.
3. Click the "Title, description, and icon" link in the Look and Feel Section of the page.
4. Enter the name of the new project in the Title field.
5. Click the OK button.
Finally, the Project Server administrator should set the manager of the new project as the Owner of the project by completing the following steps:
1. Return to the Project Web Access home page.
2. Click the Project Center link in the Quick Launch menu.
3. Click the row header for the new project and click the Edit Project Properties button.
4. Click the Owner field pick list and select the new manager of the project.
5. Click the Save and Publish button.
6. Click the Cancel button to return to the Project Center page.
After completing the above sets of steps, the project manager for the new project should do the following to take over as the manager of the project:
1. Launch Microsoft Project Professional 2007 and log into Project Server.
2. Open the project in question and apply the Gantt Chart view.
3. Right-click on the Duration column header and select the Insert Column item on the menu.
4. In the Column Definition dialog, select the Status Manager column, and then click the OK button.
5. In the Status Manger field for every task, select his/her name.
6. Save and publish the project.
Resolution for Project Server 2010
Before deleting the enterprise project, the Project Server administrator must determine the site address (URL) of the project site for the project in question by completing the following steps:
1. Log into Project Web App with administrator permissions.
2. Click Server Settings > Project Sites.
3. Write down the site address (URL) the site for the enterprise project you need to delete.

8. Close and check in the project, and then exit Microsoft Project Professional.
The Project Server administrator must connect the newly-imported project to the Project Workspace of the deleted project by completing the following steps:
1. In Project Web App, click Server Settings - Project Sites.
2. Select the new project and click the Edit Site Address button.
4. In the Site URL field, enter the URL for the Project Workspace of the deleted project. NOTE: You will not need to enter the complete URL. Enter only the part of the URL representing the name of the deleted project.
5. Click the OK button.

You may also want to rename the title of the Project Site by completing the following steps:
1. Click the Site Address (URL) for the Project Workspace.
The system navigates to the Project Site for the newly-imported project, but the title of the Project Site remains from the deleted project.
2. Click the Site Actions pick list (upper left corner of the page) and select the Site Settings option.
3. Click the "Title, description, and icon" link in the Look and Feel Section of the page.
4. Enter the name of the new project in the Title field.
5. Click the OK button.
Finally, the Project Server administrator should set the manager of the new project as the Owner of the project by completing the following steps:
1. Return to the Project Web App home page.
2. Click the Project Center link in the Quick Launch menu.
3. Click the name of the new project to display a Project Details view of the project.
4. Click the Project Information link in the Quick Launch menu and then click the Edit button on the ribbon.
5. Click Browse button for the the Owner field pick list and select the new manager of the project.
6. Click the Save button and then click the Close button.
7. When prompted to check in the project, click the Yes button.
After completing the above sets of steps, the project manager for the new project should do the following to take over as the manager of the project:
1. Launch Microsoft Project Professional 2010 and log into Project Server.
2. Open the project in question and apply the Gantt Chart view.
3. Right-click on the Duration column header and select the Insert Column item on the menu.
4. Select the Status Manager field and then click the OK button.
5. In the Status Manger field for every task, select his/her name.
6. Save and publish the project.
