Description

Both Project Server 2007 and 2010 offer a formal Timesheet feature. In Project Server 2007, you see this feature in the My Timesheet page, while in the 2010 version you see this feature in the Timesheet page. Some organizations do not want to use the Timesheet functionality and need to disable it so that users cannot access the feature at all.

Solution for Project Server 2007

To disable the Timesheet functionality in Project Server 2007, the Project Server administrator must initially do the following:

1.  Click Server Settings > Project Web Access Permissions to navigate to the Project Web Access Permissions page in PWA.

2.  Deselect the following permissions in the Resource section of the page:

  • Adjust Timesheet
  • Approve Timesheets
  • Create Surrogate Timesheet

3. Deselect the following permissions in the Time and Task Management section of the page:

  • Accept Timesheets
  • View Resource Timesheet
  • View Surrogate Timesheet

4. Click the Save button.

The above steps will disable the Timesheet functionality at the top level in Project Server 2007.  To hide the My Timesheet link in the Quick Launch menu as well, the Project Server administrator must complete the following steps:

1.  Click Server Settings > Quick Launch to navigate to the Quick Launch page in PWA.

2.  Click the My Timesheets link to open it for editing.

3.  Click the Display link in Quick Launch? pick list and select the No item on the list.

4.  Click the OK button and then click the Save button.

Finally, the Project Server administrator will need to modify the Reminders web part to remove the Timesheet reminders by completing the following steps:

1.  Navigate to the Home page in PWA.

2.  Click the Site Actions pick list menu in the upper right corner of the page and then click the Edit Page item.

3.  In the Reminders web part, click the Edit pick list and select the Modify Shared Web Part item.

4.  In the sidepane on the right, expand the Project Web Access section.

5.  Deselect each of the following options in the Project Web Access section:

  • Show timesheets from resources pending approval
  • Show administrative time off requests to approve
  • Show my unsubmitted timesheets

6.  Click the OK button.

7.  In the upper right corner of the page, click the Exit Edit Mode button (DO NOT click the X button in the upper right corner of the Reminders web part).

Important Note: To disable the Timesheet-related items in the Reminders web part on the Home page, you must have at least Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed on Project Server 2007.

Solution for Project Server 2010

To disable the Timesheet functionality, the Project Server administrator must initially do the following:

1.  Click Server Settings > Project Web App Permissions to navigate to the Project Web App Permissions page in PWA.

2.  Deselect the following permissions in the Resource section of the page:

  • Approve Timesheets
  • Adjust Timesheet

3.  Deselect the following permissions in the Time and Task Management section of the page:

  • View Resource Timesheet
  • View Project Timesheet Line Approvals
  • Accept Timesheets

4.  Deselect the following permission in the Views section of the page:

  • View Timesheets

5.  Click the Save button.

The above steps will disable the Timesheet functionality at the top level in Project Server 2010.  To hide the Timesheet link in in the My Work section of the Quick Launch menu as well, the Project Server administrator must complete the following steps:

1.  Click Server Settings > Quick Launch to navigate to the Quick Launch page in PWA.

2.  Click the Timesheet link to open it for editing.

3.  Click the Display link in Quick Launch? pick list and select the No item on the list.

4.  Click the OK button and then click the Save button.

Note: You may need to refresh your Home page in PWA several times in order for the Timesheet link to disppear in the Quick Launch menu.

Finally, the Project Server administrator will need to modify the Reminders web part to remove the Timesheet reminders by completing the following steps:

1.  Navigate to the Home page in PWA.

2.  Click the Site Actions pick list menu in the upper left corner of the page and then click the Edit Page item.

3.  In the Reminders web part, click the Reminders Web Part Menu pick list button (little black drop-down arrow) and select the Edit Web Part item.

4.  In the sidepane on the right, expand the Project Web App section.

5.  Deselect each of the following options in the Project Web App section:

  • Show timesheets from resources pending approval
  • Show administrative time off requests to approve
  • Show my unsubmitted timesheets

6.  Click the OK button.

7.  In the upper left corner of the page, click the Page tab to display the Page ribbon.

8.  In the Edit section of the Page ribbon, click the Stop Editing button.
