How do I display the Project Summary Task (Row 0) automatically when I create a new blank project?

Microsoft Project Server Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Overview

Microsoft Project Server Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Details

Background Information

The Project Summary Task (Row 0 or Task 0) is a powerful feature in a Microsoft Project 2007 plan that allows you to see a summary or total of all task information in a single row. To manually display the Project Summary Task, click Tools > Options and then display the Show Project Summary Task option on the View page of the Options dialog. In previous versions of the software, there was no way to automatically display the Project Summary Task. In Microsoft Project 2007, you can force the software to display the Project Summary Task by creating a new option in the Registry.

Resolution

To display the Project Summary Task in every new blank project in Microsoft Project 2007, complete the following steps:

1. From your Windows desktop, click the Start button and then click Run from the Start menu.

2. In the Run dialog, type “regedit” (without the quotes) and then click the OK button.

3. In the Registry Editor window, navigate to the following folder:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\MS Project\Options\View

4. Select the View folder and then click Edit > New > DWORD Value.

5. Enter the name “Show Project Summary” (without the quotes) for the new DWORD and press the Enter key on the keyboard.

6. Double-click the new Show Project Summary DWORD.

7. In the Edit DWORD Value dialog, enter 1 in the Data Value field and then click the OK button.

8. Close the Registry Editor window.

9. Launch Microsoft Project 2007 and you should see the Project Summary Task (Row 0) automatically displayed in every new blank project.
