How do I set up Project Server so that the Standard and Formatting toolbars appear docked in two rows in Microsoft Project Professional?

Microsoft Project Server Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Overview

Microsoft Project Server Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Details

Background Information

When a user launches Microsoft Office Project Professional and connects to Project Server, the system always docks the Standard and Formatting toolbars in a single row, even after the user docked the toolbars in two rows during the previous session with the software.

Resolution

The Project Server administrator should complete the following steps:

1. Launch Microsoft Project Professional and log into Project Server with administrator permissions

2. Click Tools - Customize - Toolbars

3. Select the Options tab in the Customize dialog

4. Select the “Show Standard and Formatting toolbars on two rows” option

5. Select the “Always show full menus” option as well if you wish to disable adaptive menus

6. Click the Close button

7. Click Tools - Enterprise Options - Open Enterprise Global

8. Click Tools - Organizer

9. Click the Toolbars tab in the Organizer dialog

10. Copy the Formatting and Standard toolbars from the list on the left (Global + Cached Enterprise) to the list on the right (Checked-out Enterprise Global)

11. Click the Close button

12. Save and close the Enterprise Global file

13. Exit and relaunch Microsoft Project Professional

After the Project Server administrator has performed the above set of steps, each user of Microsoft Project may need to individually perform the following steps if the system docks the Standard toolbar below the Formatting toolbar:

1. Launch Microsoft Project Professional and log into Project Server

2. Drag the Formatting toolbar below the Standard toolbar

3. Exit and relaunch Microsoft Project Professional
