How do I hide the toolbar on the MyTasks page?

Microsoft Project Server Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Overview

Microsoft Project Server Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Details

Background Information

Some organizations do not want resources to use the toolbar buttons on the My Tasks page.  These buttons offer features such as Delete, Reassign Work, or Self-Assign Team Tasks.  To prevent resources from accessing these features using the toolbar, an organization may want to hide the toolbar on the My Tasks page.

Resolution

To hide the toolbar from users on the My Tasks page in Project Web Access, the Project Server administrator must complete the following steps:

1.  Log into Project Web Access with administrator permissions.

2.  Click Server Settings - My Tasks.

3.  Click the Site Actions pick list (upper right corner) and select the Edit Page item.

4.  In the My Tasks web part, click the Edit pick list and select the Modify Shared Web Part item.

5.  In the My Tasks pane on the right, scroll down and expand the Project Web Access section.

6.  In the Project Web Access section of the pane, deselect the "Show Toolbar" option.

7.  Click the OK button.

8.  Click the Exit Edit Mode button in the upper right corner of the page.

9.  Navigate to the PWA Home page and return to the My Tasks page again.

You need to do the last step by clicking the My Tasks link in the Quick Launch menu to get the toolbar to actually disappear on the My Tasks page.

Warning:  Keep in mind that hiding the toolbar on the My Tasks page will not totally prevent your users from accessing the features on the toolbar.  They can still access these features by using the Actions menu.  There is no way to prevent users from accessing the Actions menu on the My Tasks page.
