Microsoft Office Project Professional 2007 is Required for this Action

Microsoft Project Server Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Overview

Microsoft Project Server Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Details

Background Description

An message appears when trying to open the Enterprise resource pool from Project Web Access:

“Microsoft Office Project Professional 2007 is required for this action. Ensure that your copy of Project Professional 2007 can connect to this server. if both of these conditions are true and you still get this message, contact your system administrator for assistance.”

The system can exhibit this type of behavior when the default application for .mpp file is set to support legacy formats for Project 2000 - 2003. Thus, when trying to open Enterprise Global from PWA, the system thinks that it is trying to start MS Project 2003, and incompatible applicaiton.

Resolution

Set the default file format option to support 2007 only by following these steps:

  1. Open Project Professional
  2. Click on Tools > Options
  3. Select the Save Tab
  4. In the "Save Microsoft Office Project Files As" Picklist, select "project(*mpp)"
