Resolution for Project Server 2007

Project Server 2007 allows you to rename a project two different ways:  using Project Web Access or using Project Professional 2007. Of the two, it is much simpler to rename a project using the Project Web Access interface by using the following steps:

1.  Log into Project Web Access with Project Manager or Administrator permissions.

2.  Navigate to the Project Center.

3.  Click the row header to the left of the project you want to rename, or click in any cell other than the Project Name cell.

WARNING:  DO NOT click the hyperlink for the project name as this will display a Project Details view of the project.

4.  Click the Edit Project Properties button.

5.  On the Edit Project Properties page, edit the project name in the Project Name field.

6.  Click the Save and Publish button.

7.  Click the Cancel button to return to the Project Center page.

To rename a project in Project Professional 2007, complete the following steps:

1.  Launch Project Professional 2007 and connect to Project Server.

2.  Click File - Open.

3.  In the Open dialog, double-click the "Retrieve the list of all projects from Project Server" item at the top of the dialog.

4.  Right-click on the project you want to rename and select the Rename item on the shortcut menu.

5.  Edit the name of the project and press the Enter key when finished.

6.  When the system displays a confirmation dialog, click the OK button to close the dialog.

7.  Click the Cancel button to close the Open dialog.

8.  Click File - Open again (you should see the new name for the project), and then open the project.

9.  Click File - Publish to publish the name change to Project Server.

WARNING:  When you navigate to the Project Workspace for the newly-renamed project, the project title at the top of the Project Workspace Home page remains unchanged.  You can rename the Project Workspace title by completing the following set of steps:

1.  Click the Site Actions pick list button and then click Site Settings.

2.  On the Site Settings page, click the Title, Description, and Icon link in the Look and Feel section.

3.  Enter the new project name in the Title field and then click the OK button.
