How do I reset Mixed authentication in Project Server after changing to Windows Authentication only?

Microsoft Project Server Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Overview

Microsoft Project Server Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Details

Background Information

When you change Project Server’s method of authentication from Mixed to Windows Authentication only, the system blocks every account that uses Project Server authentication and prevents those accounts from accessing Project Server entirely. This action blocks you from using the built-in Administrator account because it uses Project Server authentication.

Because of the risk associated with changing the method of user authentication in Project Server, we strongly recommend that you add several Windows-authenticated user accounts to the Administrators group so that someone can log into Project Server and perform administrator capabilities. If you fail to do so before changing the method of authentication, you will prevent yourself from being able to administer Project Server.

Resolution

To reset Mixed authentication as Project Server’s method of authentication, complete the following steps:

1. Launch the SQL Server Enterprise Manager

2. Select and expand the Project Server database

3. Locate and return all rows for the MSP_WEB_ADMIN table

4. In the MSP_WEB_ADMIN table, change the WADMIN_AUTHENTICATION_TYPE value to 3
