Background Description

When you install Project Server 2007 the installation appears successful, but you are unable to start tgeProject Application Service from the "Services on Server" page.  Clicking the Start link causes the "Operation in Progress" page to display temporarily and then returns with the status unchanged.   

Resolution

This may be related to permissions failing to propogate fully during installation. To correct this problem follow these steps:

  1. C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\
  2. Locate the folder "Machine Keys"
  3. Right click and select properties
  4. Go to Advanced Security
  5. Add the domain\farmserviceaccount and give it read and write permissions.
  6. Propogate permissions to all child objects in the folder.
  7. Close the properties.
  8. Retry starting the service.
