How do I “undo” a task update with bad actuals that I accidentally updated from Project Web Access into my Microsoft Project plan?

Microsoft Project Server Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Overview

Resolution

If you accidentally approve and update “dirty” actuals into your Microsoft Project plan, complete the following steps to reset the task to its original pre-updated state:

1. Open the project

2. Apply the Gantt Chart view

3. Right-click the Duration column

4. From the shortcut menu, select the Insert Column option

5. Select the Stop field and click Insert

6. For the task in question, set the date in the Stop field to a date one day before the task was originally scheduled to begin

7. Right-click the Stop column and select Hide Column from the shortcut menu

8. If the dirty actuals caused a split in the task’s Gantt bar, click and hold the right portion of the split task Gantt bar and drag it back to the left to remove the task split

The preceding set of steps will restore the task to its original state by resetting the Actual Work to 0 hours and clearing the Actual Start date. After doing this, you should republish the assignments for that task using the following steps:

1. Click Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments

2. In the Republish Assignments dialog, choose the Selected Items option from the pick list at the top of the dialog

3. Select the "Overwrite actual work entered by resources" option at the bottom of the dialog

4. Click the OK button

The last set of steps will restore the task assignment in the team member’s PWA timesheet to its original state before the team member entered the dirty actuals.
