Resolution for Project Server 2002, 2003, and 2007 Users

The Project Server administrator must complete the following steps:

1.  Launch Microsoft Project Professional and log into Project Server with administrator permissions.

2.  Click Tools - Enterprise Options - Open Enterprise Resource Pool.

3.  Select all of the resources in the pool and then open the Enterprise Resource Pool for editing.

4.  Double-click the name of a resource and then click the Costs tab in the Resource Information dialog.

Project Server allows you to specify up to 5 cost rates for each resource in the Enterprise Resource Pool. Cost Rate Table A contains the default Cost used each time you assign a resource to a task.

5.  Select Cost Rate Table B, C, D, or E.

6.  Enter the alternate Cost rate for the selected resource.

7.  Select other Cost Rate Tables and enter additional alternate Cost rates.

8.  Click the OK button.

9.  Repeat steps #4-8 for every resource in the Enterprise Resource Pool.

10.  Save and close the Enterprise Resource Pool.

After the Project Server administrator completes the above steps, project managers can select the Cost Rate used for resource assignments in a project by completing the following steps:

1.  Launch Microsoft Project Professional and log into Project Server.

2.  Open a project.

3.  Apply the Gantt Chart view and assign resources to all tasks using your method of choice.  NOTE: When you initially assign a resource to a task, the system applies the Cost rate on Cost Rate Table A.

4.  Apply the Task Usage view.

5.  Right-click on the Work column header and select Insert Column from the shortcut menu

6.  Select the Cost Rate Table field, set the Align Data field to Center, and then click the Best Fit button

7.  For each resource assignment in the project, select a value in the Cost Rate Table column

Note: When you select an alternate Cost Rate Table for an assignment, Microsoft Project Professional costs the assignment according to the values you entered for the resource on the selected Cost Rate Table.

Resolution for Microsoft Project Desktop Application Users

To use alternate cost rates for resources, the project manager must complete the following steps:

1.  Open the project in question.

2.  Click View - Resource Sheet.

3.  Double-click the name of a resource and then click the Costs tab in the Resource Information dialog.

Microsoft Project allows users to specify up to 5 cost rates for each resource in the project. Cost Rate Table A contains the default Cost used each time you assign a resource to a task.
