How do I use local resources in an enterprise project?

Microsoft Project Server Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Overview

Microsoft Project Server Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Details

Background Information

A local resource is any project resource not listed in the Enterprise Resource Pool. Project managers may need to use local resources in a project to represent temporary resources, such as consultants or contractors, who will not use the Project Web Access timesheet reporting system.

The incorrect use of local resources in an enterprise project is problematic, and results in a Spooler error each time the project manager attempts to publish resource assignments in Microsoft Project Professional. Refer to the following link for more information about the Spooler error:

Resolution

The project manager of the enterprise project must complete the following steps:

2. Click View - Resource Sheet

3. Type the name of each local resource

4. Set default and custom field information for each resource, as needed

5. Double-click the name of a local resource

6. Set the Workgroup value to None and then click OK

7. Repeat steps #5-6 for each local resource
